Bianca Mabute-Louie is a keynote speaker, award-winning sociologist, and forthcoming author. She is currently completing her PhD in Sociology at Rice University and is published in top academic journals, including Social Forces, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, and Socius. She has also written for Elle Magazine, and her scholarship has been featured in CNN, TIME, ABC, LA Times, Cheddar News, USA Today, The Conversation, Mic, among others. Her first book, UNASSIMILABLE, comes out January 2025 with Harper Collins.
As a child of immigrants and mother to a Chinese-Filipino son, Bianca is especially dedicated to helping Asian American communities celebrate our ethnic/racial identities, take up space in our respective fields on our own terms, and deepen our commitments to solidarity and liberation. Previous to academia, Bianca served Asian American youth in community-based organizations and taught Asian American Studies at college and high-school levels in the San Francisco Bay Area for nearly ten years. She currently serves on the board of Asian Texans for Justice.
"Bianca came in to facilitate a workshop on Anti-Asian violence for Headspace. Months later, employees are still quoting her, citing what they learned from her workshop, and how they are using this information in their work."
"Bianca is the voice that Texas needs. She hosted a workshop for our organization discussing Anti-Asian Violence and Racial Justice, and everyone LOVED it. She was an eloquent and knowledgeable speaker. Her presentation was comprehensive, insightful, and relatable. She is a clear expert in this area. We had a 20 min Q&A at the end and many members asked thoughtful, candid questions, which really helped create an authentic discussion. Everyone was raving about her at the end of the presentation. We loved her so much that we will be inviting her back to host another workshop in a few months."
"Bianca's work encompasses a wide range of knowledge and synthesis of the role of racial hegemony and how it affects racial groups' relationships. As a speaker she is engaging, thoughtful, and very easy to work with. My company found the presentation she gave very informative, and the following fireside chat super engaging. Many people had great things to say about Bianca, and we’re so happy we brought her into our workspace!"
"Bianca has an ability to combine academic learning and community-based experience, and break things down in ways that are understandable for community members with all levels of experience. Even if you've worked in racial justice coalitions for many years and think you've heard this before, you probably haven't heard it in a way that is so comprehensive and succinct. After the workshops, we are inspired to further examine how our programs that serve and advocate for primarily low-income Asian immigrants can be explicitly reframed with inclusion of an analysis of anti-Black racism."
"Bianca’s webinar was, in the words of one participant, "informative & powerful." In particular, participants enjoyed how Bianca weaved in parts of her own journey into the material at hand & how she made concepts relevant & accessible. Bianca's webinar and syllabus were really grounding & educational, especially for folx who are just starting in their journeys of decolonizing/learning more about transformative racial justice!"
"Bianca was one of the first external speakers we hosted for a corporate Employee Resource Group event. In the hour-long session, Bianca educated our team on the historical and societal framework surrounding anti-Asian discrimination. Her engaging, knowledgeable, and fact-based presentation prompted thoughtful discussion both during and after the session. Personally, I was introduced to new ideas that have re-framed my view on racial identity and proactively pushed me to seek out more information. Beyond the content, Bianca was extremely easy to work with, from meeting logistics to invoicing."
"The session with Bianca was a great opportunity to connect with API colleagues and speak about some of the issues facing our race and our identities. I learned a lot from Bianca's presentation about the Asian-American history and experience, and I'm grateful to increase my knowledge and awareness. I feel inspired to continue my learning journey!"
"Thanks to Bianca, we had a successful event focused on confronting anti-Blackness and building solidarity among Asian American communities. Participants found the background on AAPI history and solidarity helpful framing around current events. Bianca's knowledge and her ability to break topics down clearly and concisely was shown through in her presentation. She also thoughtfully included time for breakout groups and discussion to ensure engagement during our session. We definitely recommend her to others and we'd be happy to work with Bianca again!"
"Bianca led in a way that was rooted in connection, compassion, and understanding. I appreciated being able to touch base and check-in with her regarding our students' needs and how we could work together to meet them. Overall, the space we shared with Bianca encouraged our students to reflect on history of mass movements, organizing in solidarity, and empowered them to identify ways that they can create change. If given the opportunity, we would love to work with Bianca again!"
"University of Michigan’s Asian American High School Conference reached out to Bianca because she was an Asian American activist with values that we believe best match ours. Listening to Bianca's experiences and advice provided both encouragement and a learning experience for the high schoolers that attended. Conference attendees were all fully engaged and inspired by Bianca's work."
"Bianca assisted our team in further understanding who were individually, interpersonally and organizationally. Her in-depth sharing of knowledge and wisdom was pivotal in our progress this past summer. Having virtual Asian American workshop sessions with Bianca was convenient, engaging, and allowed for our new team to get to know each other more and their roles within the organization. Bianca created a customized comprehensive curriculum that was tailored to our team and what we needed. Bianca guided and prepared our team to do our work more efficiently and confidently. It was a great experience and we definitely look forward to working with Bianca again in the future."
